WELCOME TO LA VACA™
I’M EMILY VACA, LEAD CREATIVE DIRECTOR AND FOUNDER OF LA VACA™. I AM A CREATIVE ENTREPRENEUR WITH OVER 10 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AS AN ART DIRECTOR AND DESIGNER IN THE ADVERTISING INDUSTRY. MOST RECENTLY SERVING AS ASSOCIATE CREATIVE DIRECTOR IN THE MARKETING DEPARTMENTS AT CHICAGO'S TOP DESIGN AGENCY, I HAVE SPENT MY PROFESSIONAL CAREER HELPING DEFINE AND VISUALIZE BRANDS THROUGH CREATING LOGOS & IDENTITIES, DEVELOPING CONSUMER PACKAGING, AND ART DIRECTING PHOTO AND VIDEO SHOOTS FOR MARKETING.
THE BEGINNING
I started La Vaca (formerly Sugar & Gold) in 2012 as a way to continue creating outside of my day job—to be able to make with my hands rather than just a computer mouse. I started the company under the name Sugar & Gold, Inc— "Sugar" being my dad's nickname for me since I can remember— and focused primarily on wedding invitations, event design and decor DIYs. I launched the Sugar & Gold blog in 2014 as way to share designs and projects I created for my own wedding and everything that followed, including making our first home truly ours. And as the company evolved, so did the name—relaunching as La Vaca. And shortly after launching my first retail product—the Minnidip—I left my full-time advertising job to become a full-time entrepreneur to focus on my company, product development, and designhouse services full-time.
